Volume 1 Chapter 12  Secret Behind The Snatched  Recruits Part 1

Su Su got up very early the next morning. After some thoughts from night before, although he was such a cold person, she decided to deal with Mo Yuan. Enthusiasm was the best way to approach him and get closer to him, and then she will have the opportunity to know more about his secrets. Thus, when Mo Yuan came out from the inner room to meet her, Miss Su had on a bright shining smile on her face, “Good mornin’!”

Mo Yuan faintly glanced at her and replied, “Morning.”

The mountain man entered the room carrying two bowls of porridge; Su Su decided to fill up her belly first. Turning her head to stare at the man with a ‘kiss up face’ and fawning over, she asked, “What is your name? I cannot call you ‘hey’, right?”

“Li Yang.”

“Li Yang, good mornin’.”

To see her bright face smiling like sunshine, Li Yang’s brows frowned. He did not concern himself with her and went over to the front of Mo Yuan with the porridge.

Mo Yuan was dressed in the same clothes from yesterday; his slender hands held a spoon, gently stirred the porridge and the aroma of puffed rice instantly filled the room.

“Hmm, smells good!” Su Su sat beside Mo Yuan and Li Yang’s icy stern voice immediately fell onto Su Su’s ears, “You’d better know your position.”

Su Su continued to stare at the porridge without blinking an eye but her mouth was talking, “What is my position? A bodyguard?”

Li Yang just looked at her with critical eyes while Su Su awkwardly traced her fine nose. She understood the situation well. Mo Yuan had ‘him’; if he did not need her as a bodyguard then…lightly clearing her throat, she thought for a moment, “Young male servant?”

She remembered Li Yang had made her call Mo Yuan master last night; Su Su had goosebumps again and quickly said, “not…slave right?”

Li Yang was now giving her the expression of ‘you know your limitation’ look and ‘you’re smarter than that’ look. Su Su really wanted to return his disdainful look, but not an excellent move under the situation. She bowed her head down but the traces of an empty belly constantly reminded her of hunger. She said in a gentle whisper, “Even a slave cannot eat a meal.”

A pale slender hand holding a bowl of porridge handed it to her. Su Su’s eyes lit up and she immediately took it saying, “Thank you.”

The porridge was soft, warm and delicious. After about half a portion was quickly gobbled up, Su Su was finally in the mood to chat.

“What’s your name?”

“Mo Yuan.”

“Will you let me go home?”

“I will let you go when I leave.”

“Really?” Su Su did not initially think he was going to say this. The indifferent expression did not look like he was going to be committed to his words but she could also feel that he was not lying either. Mo Yuan did not tell her what she needed to do or handled what kinds of things in order for her to home as soon as possible, “I will make every effort to complete it!”

“You follow closely at my side, Ok.”

“Oh.” With Mo Yuan, she would just ask a question and he would just respond right away. Su Su suddenly discovered that this person was somewhat different from she had originally imagined him to be. She thought Mo Yuan was a man unwilling to let people close, such as a dry well, cold-hearted, indifferent to everyone and anything, but now it seems she was a bit wrong. All over him, he was dull, ‘his temperament was like water’**, seemed to be natural, and there was no need to break the ice, but such a person was really not truly close. Last night, the formula and strategies she came up with to deal with him seem to have gone to waste now.

**of the Earth, Water, Fire and Air temperaments ~ Water was the type that goes with the flow; the dark brooding and silent type.

“Eat it up. We are leaving.”

After leaving that sentence, Mo Yuan stood up and didn’t give a damn whether she will catch up or not. Su Su sighed and reluctantly put down the bowl.

After the storm, the weather was extremely good, and the sky was cloudless and deep blue. In the distant, that area of green and luxuriant jungle transmitted what was likely to be workers chanting. There was a resounding roar, like doing something with joint forces. Outside the grove, there were 4 or 5 people in one group. They were carrying and clasping with their hands a big trunk on their shoulders, and then piling them up neatly on the beach.

Why did they cut so much wood?

Mo Yuan was not walking that fast but because she kept pausing to look around, he was far away from her. Under the deep blue horizon, that black form gradually walked forth. She leisurely walked in the morning breeze; if not for the one or two pirates with a short sword on their side that she often passed by, this tranquil picture made her almost forget that she was in the pirate’s nest. Su Su searched for Li Yang but he had not come out of the log cabin. She grabbed and pulled down the hat on her head and slightly trotted to catch up with Mo Yuan.

This road was not the same one she had passed through yesterday. In the next moment, she saw a log cabin like Sang Nuan’s but it was larger and there were four tall guards standing outside.

They approached the log cabin and Su Su could hear the noise and voices coming from the people inside. Mo Yuan pushed the door open. The moment he entered, the sound stopped immediately.

“Lord zong ren*,” Yi Dang Jia heartily greeted.

Lord zong ren? Su Su followed his footsteps and paused. Mo Yuan was a native from Jiang Hu**?

Zong ren*Mediator or middleman

Jiang Hu **Rivers and Lakes Country/Martial Arts Community/Pugilistic world

The room was quite big and packed with people. Right in the center of the room stood a rectangular table with three or four mahogany chairs on each side. Sitting in the middle were the same few people from the cave yesterday, except for that young boy she despised, almost everyone was there. The small rectangular table had sand, wood chips, and grasses put on like an island. Although it was very rough, she can still see that it was more descriptive and vivid than the map. It showed the topography; this kind of thing was plentiful in the Su Family home. She didn’t expect the pirate’s nest would also have this too.

“Yi Dang Jia.” Mo Yuan’s response was still indifferent. Chief Dang looked like he was accustomed to it and seeing Su Su actually following, he played with her to say hello, “Boy, you also came.”

Su Su stood behind Mo Yuan, generously grinned and in a loud voice, “Good morning, Yi Dang jiade! You call me Xiaoshu, it would be nice.” She saw the beautiful purple figure also sitting around the table, Su Su waved towards her and smiled, “Ah Nuan, good morning.”

Sang Nuan responded with a smile and nodded gently, “Good morning.” Su Su discovered that to call her ‘Ah Nuan’ in that room, apart from Sang Nuan and Mo Yuan, everyone else looked at her strangely.

But before she could carefully analyze, that person together with the pirate chief that has similarities with him  however the whole body’s aura was covered with vicious tendencies, he impatiently said, “People get ready to start.” He looked aggressive and domineering, the appearance of being insufferably arrogant, quite somewhat little jiade (chief) in an imposing manner.

“Lord Mo said before to find 200 young recruits. Now that the number is enough, when do we begin.” The man who spoke was in his early 20’s who was standing behind the little jiade. They looked like they have a similar status, but nothing like a personal servant. He was tall and looked very handsome, although there was no smile on his face he inexplicably radiated a sense of integrity.

Who was this person?

She did not know the profound characteristics of Mo Yuan within this group of people. The only thing in front of him was a cup of tea. He was holding the teacup, took a sip, and then answered, “After the third day.”

“On the third?”  Mo Yuan’s unhurried way seemed to have irritated the little jiade. “The thick fog encircling the island will fully dissipate in 15 days. If we’re not ready as soon as possible and finished before the 15th, how will we manage?!”

The log cabin was quite big, but his roar echoed throughout the room. It was painful to Su Su’s ears; perhaps time was really urgent because that little jiade’s appearance did not look very good.

Su Su cast a slanted sidelong glance at Mo Yuan, who at that moment, had a motionless mountain calm appearance. She could only secretly sigh to admire. “After three days at zi shi (11 p.m. to 1 a.m.), the night tide will retreat 50 ten feet (Chinese 10 feet=3.3 meters). At that time, we can find the eyes’ proper position.”

Eyes? Su Su’s eyes sparkled with interest. Mo Yuan was possibly also an invisible gate numerical fortuneteller? A Jiang Hu native specialized as a zhong ren (intermediary or go-between). Zhong ren has specialized skill techniques or art of making invisible gates open and making odd doors, a matrix strategy making one ‘invisible’ making it hard for others to find them. In Qiong Yue’s territory, it seemed only the Lin Shi clans from the mountain villages together with Rong Jiabao clan were proficient in making matrix strategies. Now, this man was becoming extremely mysterious. She has never heard of Mo clan or was it that he was not from Qiong Yue? She stood quietly behind Mo Yuan with an appearance like ‘without the sense of presence’, but her ears were ‘vertically straight’.  (TL: I don’t want to lose the funny way the author described her. Let’s take it as is. Meaning she stood there like she doesn’t exist, ears like antenna ready to pick up every sound).

“So when the time comes, it may really be too late, the Huan  Lang Island (Wolf Island) on the northern side and the entire hidden reef will be submerged. If we want to land on the island, it will be extremely dangerous. Even if we are able to get to the island, behind that stretch, are mangroves across the island and may take 5 to 6 days just to traverse the grove.  In my opinion, I think that nobody will scale and land on the north side since the times are not enough. The north was inferior; to temporarily set a battle array…”

Slam!

Sang Nuan’s voice was soothing and mild. Listening to it was comfortable but unfortunately, it was interrupted by the sound of a hand hitting the table. Su Su slightly lifted her eyes to catch the little jiade, whose fist had pounded the table making that creaking sound. He stared detestably at Sang Nuan and talked in a vulgar manner. Compared to a moment ago, this voice was louder and ringing, “Liao Yue Navy is famous in the world. The northern side, although it has a lot of reefs, it does not mean they cannot scale and attack the island from there. Yi Sang Nuan, you were against the North array, was this to deliberately leave a gap for the enemies? I can see that you are very anxious to see Wolf Island compromise as soon as possible!”

Yi Sang Nuan? Sang Nuan’s surname was ‘Yi’; therefore, she…was the pirate chief’s daughter?!

Impossible…

Wait a minute, she just heard a moment ago the words, ‘Lao Yue’. Was it Liao Yue State? Su Su’s heart sank. Previously, she was caught in the pirate’s den; nevertheless, her heart was to uncover the mystery of Mo Yuan’s identity. She was right. Since it was her first time going out alone and also it was her first time meeting such strange, weird, and wonderful things, she curiously excited, and thought it would be a good experience, but if it involved engaging Liao Yue State, then that was greatly different.

End of the Chapter

Did you guys think one of the two bowls of porridge was initially for Su Su?  If not, did she just eat Li Yang’s portion? And did Mo Yuan just give his bowl of porridge that he was stirring to Su Su when she made that pitiful comment about slaves not being able to eat? Gahh, I’m so eager to find out why he chose Su Su!!! –Thina

A Mistaken Marriage Match: Pirate’s Daughter

Chapter 13    Secrets Behind the Snatched Recruits Part 2

Qiong Yue is a strong and rich country. Given their common people were also prosperous the country was honored to be the head of the six countries. Liao Yue, the next strongest country after Qiong Yue, it  had a powerful national strength. Both countries were powerful rivals in the past were also strong but Liao Yue’s national strength was also powerful. Both countries were powerful rivals in the past and in all of these years, Liao Yue’s submission had become more superficial. In fact, their petty actions were unceasing; particularly when the Seventh Prince, Bai Yi, ascended the throne ten years ago. Liao Yue seemed to have a growing tension regarding its relationship with Qiong Yue. Whenever there were troubles at the borders, Qiong Yue has Su Military to guard it. That was why on land it can be said that Qiong Yue was invincible. Since Liao Yue was nearer to the Eastern Sea, more than half of their regions occupy the geographical territories bordering that sea, therefore Liao Yue was famous worldwide for its naval forces.

By rights, due to its location, the recent call for Wolf Island to become the domicile of Qiong Yue’s territorial waters was also growing since Liao Yue was further away.  Liao Yue was very far and would have to cross the sea to attack Wolf Island, what were they doing? Su Su faintly felt Liao Yue’s call to attack Wolf Island. There must be some map of the scheme; she must certainly figure out Liao Yue’s planned scheme; whether it would threaten Qiong Yue and endanger her parents.

Because of Liao Yue, Su Su’s heart listened deeply to the discussions, carefully and attentively to the deliberations of the pirates.

Yi Hu had demonstrated a threatening and imposing manner but Sang Nuan just slightly raised her eyebrows, the sound of her voice was still mild and her expression was somewhat provocative, “I, if I really wanted to help an outside attack Wolf Island, even if there was a battle array, I can still betray you…” The tone at the end of her sentence dragged. The unspoken word or statements, the smart individual will not speak rashly, what a pity. The great temperament and not the smart individual, Yi Hu exclaimed ‘hastily set a fire and burn’, “And what kind am I? You have the original story. You get it straight.”

Sang Nuan chuckled and ignored him. Yi Hu was just about to act crazy when Yi Meng Jiade coldly said, “That’s enough!” Looking at Sang Nuan with a heavy warning and discontentment in his eyes, he said, “The Northside, Sang Nuan, you chose to remain alone and not defend it, I presume you should have other plans if you have anything, talk clearly and don’t be so mysterious.”

Sang Nuan was smiling but her eyes did not look at Chief Yi Meng  . Answering in a tone neither arrogant nor humble, “Mo Yuan is proficient in the art of making oneself invisible using imaginary matrix strategy. Under the battle array, it will surely be mysterious, however, among Liao Yue troops, there is no guarantee there is nobody equally proficient in solving the imaginary matrix technique. Just think, the style of Mo’s is like painting that varies in the thickness of ink for contrasting effects. Few of Master Mo’s matrix is not naturally easy, but if the elite naval forces find the vulnerability and attacked forcefully, among the people of Wolf Island, nobody thoroughly understands the mysterious imaginary door matrix making one invisible; and if we were trapped within the matrix, and we would want to run away to exit the mysterious matrix.  I fear that will not be easy.” (E/N: She praises Mo Yuan’s art but also cautions everyone about the enemy’s possible ways of intrusion)

Su Su slightly squinted her eyes, it seems Sang Nuan was not optimistic with this battle against Liao Yue, now she wanted to give the Wolf Island a way out. If the opponent was Liao Yue, Su Su also thought that this battle victory and defeat was already determined from the beginning. It was not because she was looking down on Mo Yuan, but the pirates’ strength against Liao Yue differed too much! Mo Yuan furthermore hasn’t given his all-out effort. It was not like he had come for somebody as a token of goodwill or affection. In this case, if the four sides were under the cover of the matrix method, the battle strategy would be entirely under the control of others.

Su Su finally understands why there was a look of dislike on that pirate chief’s face at Sang Nuan. On various occasions, it is estimated that he also knew that his daughter’s ability, wisdom, and scheming was better than his reckless sons.

Su Su secretly acclaimed Sang Nuan and completely supported her. Su Su noted Yi Hu on the other side who was precisely saying over and over again, “Greedy for life, afraid of death”, Yi Hu’s countenance was full of contempt, Sang Nuan pretending not to notice, smiled calmly, “Keeping an escape or retreat route is not good.”

“You want to run away, go, flee. I am not a coward, when they fall into the matrix, I will have them fight each other and destroy them in one swoop. The naval units in Wolf Island cannot be bullied.”

Su Su secretly felt funny, Yi Hu was surely fierce and biting and more than stubborn, but his intellectual strategy was insufficient, fit to be a piece of pirate material! This Wolf Island if it finally fell into his hands, it will just be an ordinary pirate’s den, the fear of insufficient, if it fell into Sang Nuan’s hand … …

Su Su was once again singing praises for Sang Nuan. From beginning to end, she sits there gracefully; her voice was soft and gentle. To say the irony comes, she was not the least bit weak, “Do you know the matrix strategy? What is parallelism? Only feared that people not annihilate others, but you can get caught in the matrix too.”

“You!” Yi Hu stands up fiercely, if not for the man behind him who blocked, it only feared that he would rush to Sang Nuan, but Sang Leng sat before Sang Nuan and did not say a word. Standing up quickly, the silver gun in hand severely hit the ground with a thud.

“All just shut up!” Seeing two people ready to fight wore him out. Although Yi Hu stopped, his venomous look was very profound.

Yi Dang Jiade stared at Yi Hu and Sang Leng’s eyes maliciously, these two good-for-nothing things! He took a deep breath, looked to the Mo Yuan and asked, “ Lord Mo Yuan may we hear your respected opinion.”

Holding a cup of tea in his hand, Mo Yuan blew on the gently floating tea leaves. If the quarrel had turned this house into the smell of gunpowder, it would have nothing to do with him, “Mo is invited to help you keep and defend the island; the matter of line up of course will naturally do what is possible. As to how the island decides, Mo is more than inconvenienced.”

“Such being the case, Yi Hu, you are responsible for fully coordinating with Lord Mo to protect against every effort the east, south, and west. As for north, Sang Nuan, you will do everything as you deem fit.” The Yi Hu countenance was gloomy, obviously was very mad. He was not angry with Mo Yuan but felt suffocated; he threw down a few words, then left the log cabin.

When Yi Dangjia left, they naturally do not want to stay, in particular, Yi Hu, was almost easy to charge up, he went out in a hurry, along the way, and all the way until the man spoke standing behind him, the way that men of having high opinion and always relied on.

Now the most important thing was to find out why Liao Yue wants to call an attack on Wolf Island.  If she was to ask Sang Nuan, by her intelligence, she may not necessarily able to get to know the answer. To ask Mo Yuan ……Su Su immediately denied this stupid idea, that with Yi Hu around the young man side although there have been many words, actually the whole body was not passing one share strength but he was not reckless like Yi Hu. Maybe from him, she can find information. Su Su hesitated for a moment, goes forward several steps and arrived at Mo Yuan’s. Pointing to the group of men in the distant place moving woods and asked, “Can I help them?”

Su Su was worried Mo Yuan will disagree, but he calmly responded with a phrase, “Go ahead.”

Su Su thinks Mo Yuan’s attitude towards her was very strange, just right now also, she doesn’t understand. Mo Yuan nodded and Su Su ran towards the seashore.

Su Su left Mo Yuan lingering behind, a black figure appeared, that of mountain man Su Su thought did not come, Li Yang, big tall figure move up, shaped like a ghost.

(Tl note: Was Li Yang under that invisible matrix? He was there all the while but nobody could see him?)

“Ask anything .”

Li Yang looks weak and his complexion changes; his hand formed a fist. He tightened his fist and finally could not bear it anymore and asked, “Master, why did you make that boy follow your side?” For all these years, except for him, the master never let anybody close. He really could not see the merits of this youth, but the master keeps him to his side unexpectedly.

Mo Yuan stared at the figure who was running faster and farther. His usual quiet black pupils have waves of light as he spoke, “In her body is the breath of halidom* (Ling Shi) and its inner vital energy. ” (E/N: I’m not sure if he actually uses the pronoun ‘her’ here since she’s still in disguise. I’ve already finished the MTL version so I know the surprise but I just don’t know if the pronoun was used between Mo Yuan and Li Yang…hmm perhaps the Chinese languages lack the term “he/she/her/him” like other languages and MTL translated it out to be this way? IDK)

*Halidom meaning something sacred or holy relic

Li Yang’s eyes opened wider, if the master was not in front of him, he wanted to run after him and catch that young man and take a closer look. No wonder the master brought him around and even arranged to sleep with him in the same room. Everything was related to the Ling Shi, truly he cannot be taken lightly. The master looked nearly for one month on this island but hasn’t heard of the sacred object. He could not understand why the Ling Shi that was missing nearly hundred years will be associated with this boy?

  1. “…hmm perhaps the Chinese languages lack the term “he/she/her/him” like other languages and MTL translated it out to be this way? IDK)” About this, it’s possible that Mo Yuan actually knows that the “boy” is actually a girl. That’s why the Chinese character uses “she” character. Chinese has different characters for he, she or it, however the actual words for them are pronounced the same way. Thanks for this translation!
